If you have to take care of your children at home and cannot work because kindergarten or school are closed due to the corona pandemic, you can receive a continuation of your salary under certain circumstances. However, this is only possible if your child is younger than 12 years or needs help because of a disability, and if there is no other way of taking care of your child. Your employer will then continue to pay your wages to the amount of 67% for 6 weeks and will be reimbursed for the money by the Thuringian state government. Self-employed persons in this situation can also receive such compensation.

If these conditions are not met, you do not automatically have the right to stay at home. In this case, you have to talk to the employer whether you can take vacation or overtime or find another solution.

You can get the supplementary child allowance if your income is sufficient for your own livelihood, but it is not or only barely sufficient to cover the entire needs of your family.
